I owe a debt of gratitude to my parents for introducing me to this record by Bill Cosby when I was young...I remember hearing it many times over early on - I still smile at most every turn. This line starts the album, and is so emblematic of Cosby's humor... a slight pause follows. Every few months, the line pops into my head. Perhaps I've always been nostalgic - maybe I've always been a kid at heart. Both?
As I listen to it again and think about it *just now*, I can't believe the skit is called "Sneakers". Maybe I have Bill to thank for turning me into a runner!
What I love about Bill is his sound effects....they remain in the background, but are done with such precision... sometimes it sounds like a produced segment. Since this introduction to my 'first' comedian, I've come to love many of the throwbacks - Bob Newhart, John Cleese, Steve Martin, Rodney Dangerfield, Jackie Gleason, Bob Hope, Tim Conway... timing is everything. Isn't it always?
We could each use a little more humor, a little more laughter in our daily lives. Go find it.....or just look around, it'll strike you in the funniest of places. :-p
